Residents of the Special Care Unit enjoy a safe, comfortable and secure environment and are cared for 24 hours a day by trained staff. The unit incorporates the latest research and techniques in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. From the secure entry door and outdoor patio/yard area to the soothing colors throughout our unit, the residents’ safety, physical and psychological needs are the primary concern of Jo Ellen Smith. A range of activities are scheduled throughout the day for Special Care Unit residents. The activity program is designed to maximize and maintain the physical and mental well-being of each resident.
Jo Ellen Smith is dedicated to raising the standards of excellence in providing quality living for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related illnesses. As such, our Special Care Unit offers specialized features including:
- Use of photos for way-finding.
- Secured, covered patio and spacious yard.
- Therapeutic activity room.
- Activities appropriate for those with dementia or dementia-related illnesses.
- No overhead paging on the unit.
- Continuity of Care – select employees staff the unit based on experience and techniques that are specific to Alzheimer’s and dementia care.
